Riverside Beat Priority Update |
||
|
Good morning everyone,
One of our priorities in this quarter was that of focusing on offences relating to cycle crime and cycle thefts.
Please see the following May update in relation to this:
Positive progress has been made this month, with a significant drop in reports of bike thefts across the area. This success reflects proactive patrols targeting key locations where cycles are commonly stored or where there is a high footfall, including Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) and De Montfort University.
Working in partnership with Dr Bike, we also hosted a well-attended bike registration event aimed at promoting cycle security, safety, and community engagement. A large number of bikes were registered, which not only acts as a strong deterrent to theft but also greatly increases the chances of recovering property if it is ever lost or stolen.
We continue to address wider cycle-related community concerns. Recently, there have been reports of illegal e-bikes and e-scooters, particularly in outdoor public spaces and around the university campus. In response, we regularly carry out Operation Pedalfast, targeting unlawful use of these vehicles. These ongoing efforts are helping to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and all road users alike.
If you see anyone acting suspicious, whether around bike stores or in general, please give us a call on 999 and officers can attend and challenge such behaviour.
Sgt 1509 Wilson
